York Traditions Bank has announced that Nicole Shaffer has joined the organization as Director of Her Traditions, the bank’s strategic commitment to serving the unique financial needs of area women.

Shaffer has over 20 years of experience in communications and community building. A graduate of West York Area High School and Lycoming College, Nicole most recently served as the Vice President of Development & Communications at United Way of York County, where she led all Resource Development lines of business and established the overall communications strategy for the organization. She previously served as the Communications and Customer Service Manager for YWCA York, whose mission is to empower women and eliminate racism.

“Since its inception in 2002, York Traditions Bank has placed emphasis on helping women learn, be inspired, and take charge of their financial future,” observes President & CEO Eugene Draganosky. “Each year, the focus has become more defined, and the addition of Nicole in this newly-created role allows us to take this important work to the next level.”

Her Traditions logoIn 2012, York Traditions Bank branded its efforts as Her Traditions and introduced the concept of financial personalities. This innovative approach recognizes each woman as an individual, helping her gain the knowledge and the confidence she needs to succeed without fear of judgment. Her Traditions emphasizes financial education, networking opportunities, support of the community, and having fun. The bank holds annual Her Traditions events and offers a scholarship program for young women who have the potential to become future leaders in our community.

Carolyn Schaefer, retired Managing Director who continues to serve as Founder and Champion of Her Traditions, shares, “It’s wonderful to have Nicole on board to further shape and execute our strategic direction for our women’s initiative. Her experience and her passion for supporting women throughout her career make her an ideal choice for continuing this important effort into the future.”

As a lifelong champion for women’s issues, Nicole is excited to become an integral piece of ensuring the continuity of Her Traditions. “Carolyn Schaefer and York Traditions Bank leadership have worked diligently to provide women in our community with a platform to thrive financially, enriching every aspect of their lives,” notes Nicole. “I feel honored to be named Director of this extraordinary initiative.”

An active community advocate, Nicole currently serves on the board for York City Dollars for Scholars, is the chair for YWCA York’s Racial Justice Committee, and serves on the planning committee for the Confronting Racism Coalition among numerous other community commitments. Nicole is also a volunteer for Junior Achievement, where she has gone into local schools to teach the importance of resume creation, interview skills, understanding credit cards, and building a strong credit history.

“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many women in York, and I know the important role that financial health plays in helping us achieve our dreams,” Nicole Shaffer adds. “I am thrilled to be a part of Her Traditions to ensure that women are inspired to dream big.”
